In order to receive Newman credit, students must successfully complete all requirements of the individual courses and abide by our attendance policy. These courses will appear on a student’s graduation transcript and will be awarded (.5) credits, equivalent to the credit earned in a semester-long course offered during the regular school year. Grades will be assigned by the summer teachers according to Newman’s upper school grading policy, outlined in the handbook and will be calculated in a student’s GPA.
Students wishing to withdraw from a for-credit course, for any reason, can do so without penalty within the first week of class. Thereafter, the withdrawal will appear on the student’s transcript. Students from schools other than Newman should contact their upper school offices for transfer credit policies; Newman will provide all summer academic records to such schools upon family request.
For those students who plan to drive themselves, only on-street, neighborhood parking is available. We encourage all such students to observe city parking regulations.
Since for-credit classes meet for four hours a day and attendance is an important aspect of the academic experience, Newman credit will normally NOT be awarded to any student who misses more than two days of class. All students are expected to arrive on time for class; excessive and/or repeated tardiness may result in academic penalty.
Please contact the Newman Summer office at (504) 896-6297 with your child’s full name, class enrolled, and expected arrival time.
Newman has a Health Center on campus, which is staffed by a certified nurse or athletic trainer, 9am – 3:30pm.
Please note that in honor of the Independence Day holiday, the Isidore Newman Campus and Newman Summer will be closed on Wednesday, July 4th. There will be no classes.
